They came out with their umbrellas in their hundreds of thousands,
filling the streets of Hong Kong again and again, protesting the heavy hand of the Chinese regime in their lives, denouncing their government’s decision to allow extraditions of their citizens to China. They remained peaceful when security forces tried to disperse them, turning their umbrellas to protect themselves from tear gas. Through their resilient and patient activism, they have demonstrated the power of peaceful activism even in the face of the most authoritarian systems.
